Introduction to TNPSC Group Exam:
TNPSC (Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission) is a board that conducts exams for various jobs of the Tamil Nadu Government. They conduct various exams like Group 1, Group 2/2A, Group 4, and other group examinations every year to recruit people to work in various posts in Tamil Nadu Government.
Different types of TNPSC Group Examinations include,
- Group 1
- Group 2/2A
- Group 4
Also, there are other exams that are being conducted by TNPSC but the ones that listed above are the main and the most expected exams by the aspirants every year. The difference between each exam is the job level will vary for each exam. Ex: Group 1 Exams will be conducted for various district-level posts like Deputy Superintendent of Police, Deputy collector, etc. whereas Group 2 exams will be conducted for Deputy Registrar of different departments of the Tamil Nadu Government, etc.

TNPSC Group 1:
TNPSC Group 1 is considered as one of the most prestigious and highly sought-after examinations conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission. This examination will be conducted every year for various posts that come under the group 1 category such as Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police, and Assistant Commissioner, etc.
The TNPSC Group 1 exam will be conducted in 3 stages.
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
- Interview
The minimum educational qualification a candidate must possess to write TNPSC Group 1 exam is ‘Any Degree’ from a recognized university or institution. The candidate’s Age limit must lie between 18 and 32 years.

TNPSC Group 2/2A:
TNPSC Group2/2A exam is conducted every year for both interview and non-interview posts. This exam is also conducted every year and various group 2/2A posts include Deputy Commercial Tax Officer, Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Labour, Assistant Director of Rural Development, and District Registrar of various department that operates under Tamil Nadu Government.
The TNPSC Group 2 exam is conducted in 3 stages,
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
- Interview
For Non-Interview posts, no interview will be conducted.
Those who cleared group 2A examinations, they will be posted under various posts such as Personal Clerk, Assistant in the Departments of Secretariat, and Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.

TNPSC Group 4:
TNPSC Group 4 exam is considered as the most popular exam when compared with the remaining examination because this exam is conducted every year. Whenever the notification is released, the usual vacancy releases every year ranges approximately between 4000-5000 vacancies, and more than 20 lakh peoples apply for this exam every year.
The reason why more peoples apply for this exam every year is that it is a ‘single stage’ examination and does not conduct any main exam or any interviews. If any person has cleared the exam means they will be posted under any post based on the mark scored by the candidate.

Because the TNPSC gives first preference to candidates who have this certification completed at the time of certificate verification. Each exam has its own eligibility criteria and educational qualifications. So to get to know all the information that is required for an exam, we should refer to the notification for the exam which will be released by TNPSC before 60 days of the date of examination. Even though each exam has its own educational qualification and eligibility criteria. The common eligibility and educational qualification is, a candidate must be at least 18 years old and should not exceed 32 years and the candidate must hold ‘any degree’ from a recognized university or institution.
If any candidate is having the above-mentioned eligibility, they will become eligible for most of the examinations that are being conducted by TNPSC.
